South Texas - A Vacation Paradise for Pet Lovers

Are you one of the many pet owners who feels that your pet is a member of your family?  Does your stomach knot up a bit when you want to take your family on a beach vacation and you know that unless you find a viable alternative you will need to put your pet in a kennel while you are away?
When vacation time rolls around this becomes a real problem because a lot of places that you would want to visit and many hotels and vacation rentals in those areas that you’d love to stay at don’t allow pets.  When that happens, you probably wish that there was a great vacation spot that your family would love that would also be pet friendly.
Pet owners who read this article can rejoice because it’s about just such a place.  There are six hundred miles of some of the most accessible beaches in the United States in South Texas and many of them are pet friendly.  Here are some of the most beautiful and popular pet friendly vacation destinations in South Texas.

Padre Island National Seashore
One of the most popular beach destinations in the United States is Padre Island National Seashore.  More than 800,000 people visit this area every year.  You’ll find a plenty of dogs as well as people running around, lounging about and enjoying the surf, sand and sun here.  Only a few areas at Padre Island National Seashore require that you leash your dogs.

South Padre Island
You’ll find another pet friendly beach is Isla Blanc Park on South Padre Island.  Not only is Isla Blanc Park a really large pet friendly beach it is also a very clean beach.  That’s because they have strict rules that require that people clean up after their pets.
Beach access is free and you can get a pooper scooper at the park office.  This is a great vacation destination because you will also find plenty of shopping, restaurants and nightclubs nearby.
Some of the other things that make a South Padre Island vacation so terrific are being able to go bay fishing, deep sea fishing, enjoy parties on the beach, and go parasailing over the Gulf of Mexico.  You can even take day trips into Mexico because the Mexican border is only twenty minutes away.

Cole Park
Another terrific destination for families that have both pets and children is located at Corpus Christi, Texas.  When you visit Cole Park in Corpus Christi you’ll find a ton of play areas for the kids, plenty of sand for your puppy to dig in, and a fishing pier for anglers.
When you’re in Corpus Christi you also won’t want to miss going to the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center.  It’s one of the five major attractions in the area and one of the top nature tourism destinations in all of South Texas.
While you’re there you won’t want to miss the Bromeliad Conservatory, a 2,600 square foot screened in butterfly house, the quaint Hummingbird Garden, the Earth Kind Demonstration Trial Gardens, and the beautifully landscaped Sensory Garden.

Stewart Beach
If you’re heading towards Galveston then you will want to spend some time at Stewart Beach.  Families love this beach and it’s also a place that will allow dogs if they are leashed.  While you’re there you can, even while away the day, participating in a sand castle competition.
After reading this article you probably have a lot more choices for your next vacation than you may have realized.  And, when you go, you can bring every member of your family with you – including your dog.
